Natalia Cullell is post-doctoral fellow who graduated in Human Biology in 2014 from Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona, Spain), achieving an average grade of 9.13 and receiving 22 distinctions. Subsequently, she was granted a scholarship to pursue a Master's in Pharmaceutical and Biotechnological Industry at the same University. Natalia obtained her Doctorate in Medicine and Translational Research in June 2023 with Excellent grade and Cum laudem distinction.
Since 2015, she has been working as a genetist researcher and lab manager at Fundació Docència i Recerca Mútua Terrassa, contributing to the Mutua Neuroscience group led by Dr. Jerzy Krupinski as the principal investigator. Additionally, she collaborates with the Neurovascular Pharmacogenetics and Genomics group at the Sant Pau Research Institute, under the leadership of Dr. Israel Fernández Cadenas and in the Life Science Department from the Metropolitan Manchester University, under the supervision of Prof. Carol Ainley, holding an agreement with these Institutions. Her primary area of study centers around the use of omic technologies in complex diseases. It includes genetics, epigenetics, and pharmacogenetics of neurovascular diseases. She has collaborated on up to 15 distinct funded projects funded, leading as principal investigator four of them, including the recently awarded project by the Barcelona Council "Clima Project" in the call for young and emerging research projects. Throughout this period, she has participated in courses and conferences within the genetics, epigenetics and neurovascular diseases field. She has presented at international conferences with 10 oral presentations. Recently, she has received the Young Investigator Award for her presentation in the European Stroke Organisation Conference (ESOC) 2024. Additionally, Natalia has instructed the "Genetics and Neurology" class in the Clinical Neurology Training Course organized by the Catalan Society of Neurology for neurology residents. She has also been an instructor in a course organized by the Spanish Consortium for the Study of Cerebral Infarction Genetics (GENESTROKE) and has conducted pharmacogenetics classes for pharmacy students at Ramón Llull University.
Natalia has contributed to more than 55 scientific publications (Google scholar: https://acortar.link/4XMNcq), eight of which she authored as the first author. Furthermore, she authored a book chapter on generating genetic scores in the "Stroke Biomarkers" book. Her H-index is 21 (Scopus). Natalia Cullell actively participates in the International Stroke Genetics Consortium (ISGC), the Spanish Stroke Genetics Consortium (GENESTROKE), and the Carlos III Health Institute's RETICS network (Ricors-Ictus).

Tras desarrollar su trayectoria en un centro de referencia internacional (Cemcat, Hospital Vall d’Hebron), actualmente lidera un grupo de investigación emergente en el Institut de Recerca del Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, con el objetivo de consolidar una línea de investigación estable en neurología autoinmune y biomarcadores en patologías del SNC. Su experiencia en el liderazgo de proyectos competitivos, su participación en redes internacionales y su contribución al desarrollo de los nuevos criterios diagnósticos de la EM refuerzan su trayectoria en este campo. En ese sentido, ha sido investigadora principal de dos proyectos financiados por el Instituto de Salud Carlos III: PI22/01589 y PI17/02162, que han permitido estudiar la vía visual desde las fases iniciales de la EM y han generado resultados clave en el ámbito del diagnóstico precoz y los resultados han sido incorporados en la nueva revisión de los criterios diagnósticos.
